The Brooklyn Music Scene

Film Documentary

New York City, particularly the Lower East Side, has been for a long time a tremendous location for independent music production.Today, the Brooklyn music scene is also getting world widely known with record labels such as DFA, Captured Tracks and Partisan Records based in the borough. This tendency is constantly growing with music venues opening all over Williamsburg, Greenpoint and Bushwick and musicians from all over the world gathering there in search of gigs and fame.

What are the secrets of the Brooklyn music scene success? Is this movement genuine or rather the product of accelerated gentrification? How is it changing neighborhoods and how does it affect its communities?

The Brooklyn Music Scene documentary aims to answer these questions by following the links between the Brooklyn community and the record labels, emerging artists and music venues established in the borough.

The Building of a Community

Film Documentary

In the summer of 2012, Colectivo Piloto produced a short documentary to service the mission of the Museum of Reclaimed Urban Space, in broadcasting the historical memory of activist movements of the Manhattan Lower East Side.

“The building of a Community'' examined the social transformation of the Lower East Side of Manhattan, where activists, artists, historians and political representatives describe the neighborhood, the squatters, the community gardens and explain the struggle to save them.

With its long and continuing history as a haven for immigrants, artists, musicians, poets, and political activists, the Lower East Side has been a cultural incubator since its earliest days. Ideas, movements, trends and customs that derive from either old or new world cultures, or both, emerged and radiated from here.

miniFILM Festival

Film Festival. Barcelona, Spain

The miniFILM Festival was the first internationally recognized film festival to promote mobile devices and digital cameras for film productions.

The goal of this unique festival was to give filmmakers a chance to use their mobile phones and digital cameras to create their own 3 minute film. The initiative has achieved significant and scalable community participation involving community members, film directors and producers to tell stories about their communities. The festival celebrated diversity and experimentation while rewarding creative and ingenious pieces.

From 2006 to 2010, the miniFILM Festival was received with great publicity throughout Spain and Latin America. This innovative and creative event helped solidify Colectivo Piloto's reputation as a cultural promoter.
