The population of Spain is changing: In the last twenty years, more than 1 million persons have immigrated from Latin America, Asia and East Europe.
To improve the relationships between local and immigrants, the Spanish branch of the non-profit organization Save the Children and Colectivo Piloto conducted diversity workshops in public high-schools of Barcelona asking the young participants to talk about their family and origins.
Telling their story and hearing those of their schoolmates raised the children’s awareness of their cultural differences. They were able to understand that these differences were not barriers, but rather tremendous opportunities to learn from diversity.
