Each year the Spanish Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) orchestrates the “Semana Cultural” (Cultural Week). Over 5 days, a myriad of conferences, workshops, exhibits, performances and concerts are given and organized by faculty, staff and students.

In June 2008 the UPV Fine Arts department invited Colectivo Piloto to put together a one day film creation workshop. After a short introduction to the different aspects of film production, students were randomly given a theme, consisting of a specific sensory sentence. From this starting point, they were to produce, in five hours, a short video. This exercise included development, pre-production, production, and post-production. At the end of the day, the results were watched and analyzed by all participants. The best pieces were publicly screened at the end of the “Semana Cultural” and their authors explained their experience to the audience.

This workshop was specifically designed to give Fine Art students, who are more used to traditional techniques of creation, the opportunity to express their talent through moving images and digital tools.
