This video made by Pablo Herrera (ELECTROFILMIKA) capture the the Latin American electronic music scene in New York City through a series of showcases organized by Trilogy NYC at Halcyon The Shop and TBA Brooklyn, in July 2017.
The 2 day event hosted by Trilogy NYC gathered renowned Dj and music performers such as Denite (Redlight / DIYNAMIC MUSIC / Get Physical Music); Dave Gomez [Dave Gomez] Lame Insults) – Colombia; Berny Burns (Inscene Management and Events) – NYC; Sonico (Techsound / Naked Lunch Records) – Colombia; Til (The Chosen Two / Powder & Louder) – Berlin; and the visual artists Laura Ramirez (Optika VJ) – Colombia; and VJ Eli-Q (Eli Quintero Trilogy/NYC).
About the Organizer
Trilogy NYC is music performer and producer from Bogota, Colombia, based in NYC since 2006. Giovanni (Trilogy) had his first residency in a small underground club called “SubRoyal” in Bogota, Colombia, where he played all sorts of music from Techno, Electro, Tech-House to New-School Breaks. In 2004, Giovanni was invited to play at the Bogotraxx Festival. In 2006 Giovanni moved to NYC where he co-founded Biatch Corp, a musician collective dedicated to promoting new meanings for Techno Music. In 2010, Giovani founded Trilogy NYC, his own label event. Giovanni shared the stage with renowned artists such as Moby, Damian Lazarus, Sasha, Tony Rohr, Mathias Schafaulser, John Tejada among others.
About the Venues
Halcyon The Shop has been Brooklyn’s hub for music since 1999. As one of New York’s long-standing record stores. Halcyon is about sharing a passion for music and instilling respect for vinyl culture in a wider community.
TBA Brooklyn was founded by veterans of New York’s bar, club and underground party scene. TBA features top-flight electronic music from the best local DJs and promoters with the occasional international artist, all in a relaxed and intimate atmosphere.
About the Djs
Denite. Spanish electronic music artist based in Berlin, label manager of Redlight Music and produced by DIYNAMIC MUSIC / Get Physical Music. Denite introduction to electronic music came in the 90’s at the age of fourteen. In 1998, influenced bybands like Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, he started playing guitar, drums and bass, performing in bands for a number of years. His releases have graced the shelves of such labels as Diynamic, Get Physical, Third Ear Recordings as well as his own Redlight Music imprint.
Dave Gomez. The international career of this artist began in 2008, when he felt the need to interact with more cultures. During two and a half years, he lived in London, where he played in some bars and he had monthly residence in the 93 Feet club, a club well known in the Brick Lane area. Later, he played in underground clubs in Switzerland, in Latin America, in Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay. In 2014, he joins the New York scene, playing for the Global Mixx Radio station and in the TBA and Kinkfold clubs. Nowadays, he is involved in the local scene and has monthly residence in Radio Berlin club with his Phononova Showcase concept. He also plays in Baum and Billares Londres.
Sonico (Techsound / Naked Lunch Records). For over 19 years unstoppable promoter, label manager, booker and true soul techno head, has been playing, producing and promoting electronic culture in Colombia and South America through his events crew and label Techsound founded in 1999.
About the Visual Artists
Optikal Ink Lab is the AV label that hosts the works created by Laura Ramirez a.k.a. Optika VJ, an independent audiovisual director and visual artist specialized in integrate the digital art with audiovisual narratives to create installations, video mapping interventions, VJ sets, live performances and videos that play with the viewer’s perception. O .I .L . is also a floating workspace where digital artists are invited to work in projects and to co-create artworks following the lab’s guidelines. Based in Bogotá-COL and working in different countries.
Eli-Q (Eli Quintero Trilogy/NYC) is an AV artist from Colombia based in New York City and working closely for the Record Label Trilogy/NYC since 2018. Her work stands out for the geometric figures used to emphasize the electronic chords during her performances.
About the Filmmaker
Pablo Herrera, is an Argentinian music producer and filmmaker based in New York City, well known throughout the electronic music community for his project ELECTROFILMIKA which since 2009 has merged the work of filmmakers and electronic musicians in Spain, U.S. and Latin America. One of the best performances Pablo has been create is the live soundtrack of Metropolis, the masterpiece of German expressionist science-fiction drama filmed by Fritz Lang in 1927, and set in a futuristic urban dystopia. The live electronic music includes tracks of Jon Hopkins, Moderat, Paul Kalkbrenner, Gui Boratto, among other renowned musicians from the German record label based in Cologne: Kompakt Records.
